New 5 Room Layout Design

Maybe because of the election, HDB rolls out 4 new BTO sites today. These are the new 5 room layout design. The absence of the kitchen wall seems to make the whole flat bigger. However, will the oily smell spread to the living room if you are cooking in the kitchen?
